Reported on SEOMOZ’s Blog, some further research and studies have once again suggested that the importance of on page optimisation is extremely important to ranking well in the search engines.
The report showed how Google and other search engines may be using an algorithmic system that checks for relevancy of grouped words in a document, and calculates that against a search term.
For example, this blog has about a 56% or so relevancy to SEO but a 59% relevancy to SEO Blog as a search term, meaning that with the right links it should be easier for me to rank for SEO blog than for SEO (which is common sense really)
And I would have a much harder time ranking for internet marketing as my relevancy is only around 40% for that search term.
Now, dont confuse this with keyword density or stuffing your site with nonsense. The copy must still read well, but in one or two places you can add a synonym or relative term to your page, while still optimising it around a main search term or keyword.
My main keywords are SEO Tips, Techniques, Advice and so I could write a post on SEO Tips, search engine optimisation tips and techniques all in one page as they are all relevant.
Try it and see for yourself!
But do not forget that links are still important, and optimising your title tag is equally important, but yet again, this still proves that content is king.
